The costume for sale on websites is pretty expensive (70 plus 30 for the wig!) So, I just made my own costume, and let me tell you, it is perfectly hilarious - and I've never made anything in my life. I bought felt from the fabric store, and used fabric glue instead of sewing. I had no clue about the pattern, so I looked at a pair of pants inside out to get the idea. i cut out 2 front/back sides for each leg, including room for the crotch and butt. On the hip part, I also cut extra to give the oompa loompa shape(an oblong half circle). Once I pinned them and tried them on, I was able to glue them (use a hairdryer to speed drying time). Next, I simply cut a long rectangle and pinned then glued it around the waist of the pants (to cover the stomach, they are a supposed to go higher than the waist - like overalls). Then cut strips of felt for the overall straps. Add buttons and viola. I used velcro for side closure on the outfit. I bought a brown turtleneck, and used a medical tape for the striped on the collar and sleeve cuffs. Same thing for the brown socks. Used a green flip wig, and for the eyebrows, use cotton balls (shaped into brows) and glued w/spirit gum. Orange make up - and you are done. I did the entire thing in about 4-5 hours. It is well worth the time. Good luck, hope this makes sense.
