Well there is no point in buying the helmet when you should be able to construct it out of cardbord, paper mache, sunglass lenses, and pencils. For the helmet you need to make a basic cardboard construction on the top(I have no pics but trust me this is the cheapest way) of the round part of the helmet, then add the paper machet over top of it to round it out, than us a curved sheet of cardbord taped on for the back of the helmet. The mask is kind of cubic and less round and can be easily constructed out of cardboard, the lenses are made with sunglass lenses (preferrably as shaded as you can get them) and the little protruding things on the bottom of his mask can be made with pencils. The cape is simply cloth, get some gloves construct a cardboard chest plate and pack and wear some black clothes, make some cardboard leggings and get some rubber boots and paint them black. Done in about 30 bucks.|

I made a paper mache Vader helmet years ago, it was very good but I recommend buying the Don Post or Rubies PLASTIC helmet, I eventually ditched my mache vader after halloween and got the plastic one, I'm glad I did, It made a BIG difference in the appearance.|

easiest way to make a vader costume,|
Armor: use styrene plastic (those little FOR SALE signs) and cut into segments, sand and use SUPER GLUE to fix them together. use this method for shoulder, shins and cod piece.
Gloves: Black Rubber gloves (dish gloves, or the heavy "GHOSTBUSTER" gloves)
BOXES: this is usually the hard part. This solution is fairly economical too. Use Styrofoam blocks in appropriate sizes for chest, and belt boxes. cover the styrofoam block in Black Duct Tape. Use Foamies for the buttons painted appropriately. for the light pegs....Lightbright pegs....sounds funny but they light up under black lights. attach boxes with elastic and or Velcro.
Boots: use the big thick black rubber (sh*t kicker) $13 dollar boots found at most retail stores.
Inner robe: Walmart has material for $1 a yard, especially at halloween time. Basically this piece is roughly a sleevless trenchcoat/bathrobe. Use newspaper and make this pattern to fit you. Robe hangs down to ankles. This piece goes under the shoulder armor and under the belt.
Cape: I recommend getting a CAPE pattern to do a decent cape. the Dracula cape just doesn't work as well with this costume. It needs to hang to ankles. Basic cape has full back and 2 sides on front. If material is big enough, you may do full left and full right and only have a seem down the spine.
Sabre: I recommend the Hasbro Electronic Vader Lightsabre found in the toy dept rather than any costume sabre.
This is what my first vader costume was and people loved it. Most of us Troops started with this kind of Homemade vader and moved down the ranks to bounty hunters to StormTroopers. Always upgrade when ever possible to add quality to your costume. I'm not saying go buy the $2000 vader costume off of ebay, I'm just saying start small and aim high, enjoy the journey.
