What kind of paint are you using on your armour and helmet?

Mainly because I need the quick drying time of acrylic as I'm always up against the deadline. After that, I apply 3 or 4 coats of polyeurethane. For covering shiny metallic colors, I prefer water-based polyeurethane as it lets the colors come through better. Thicker oil-based coating is a bit better for colors that are somewhat duller.

by Beckey Rizzonelli

We were thinking about buying a halloween mask for $7.99 and would like to paint it all blue, i.e. blue for a Ghostly Trio person from Casper. What type of paint would you or someone else recommend?

When I was doing my costumes, I did get some recommendations about using oil-based paints (the stuff artists use, not the stuff you paint your walls with) as you can get better tones with them.

But to be honest, it's not worth the hassle. My suggesting is acrylic as it is easy and quick drying. Then cover with a layer or two of a water-based polyeurothane. Any self-respecting art store will have a large selection of acrylic paints. And of course, you can find the polyeurothane at hardware stores.
